Trulli houses for holidays in Apulia
The trulli houses Antiche Dimore are situated in the area of Ceglie Messapica (art town and land of gastronomy), in the quarter called Angelo di Maglie. There’s a group of three trulli houses, detached one from the other to guarantee the independence and peace of the guests, surrounded by a beautiful park of 6 acres of secular olive trees mixed with several types of fruit trees (walnuts, cherries, almonds, chestnuts,...). They were built around 1780. Originally the trulli houses were the country houses of the farmers who used them also as tool sheds and barns for the cattle. They have been renovated in accordance with the traditional rules; local builders called ‘trullari’ have worked to recreate the original structure.
The renovation works have been made following these fundamental conditions: recuperation of the structure of the trulli house respecting both the construction techniques and the typology of the used materials, without changing the structure
but creating, at the same time, a nice and comfortable environment. The property “Antiche Dimore” currently consists of two parcels of land delimited by stone walls, with a total area of 25,000 square meters, where are located three Trulli; to each we gave a name of a tree: Ulivo, Ciliegio and Melograno (olive, cherry and pomegranate). In addition to the Trulli, there is also a small house called Lamia
adjacent to the Trullo Melograno. The Lamia was build around 1950 and it was used as a tool shed. The three trulli houses have the same typology… they still have the authentic charm of the old country houses and they’re perfect to sleep 4/6 people. Formed by three “cones”, the middle one is the highest and biggest one and the other two are smaller; in one of them there’s a queen bed (in the same position as it was originally) and in the other one there’s a fire place; from here, going three steps down there’s a well furnished kitchenette, two bedrooms (one with a queen bed and the other one with bunk beds) and a bathroom with shower and bidet.
All houses have a large patio with wooden table and chairs and - of course - a grill.
